The ALS Association

From the website: “Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as ‘Lou Gehrig’s disease,’ is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually lead to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.” More money and support is needed, not only to try and find a cure, but to help care for those who have it. On a personal note, my mother is one of those patients and ALS is so underhelped, anything you could do would be appreciated.

Wrestler’s Rescue

This group seeks to help out some of the older wrestlers who worked hard to entertain us and have now either fallen on hard times or otherwise need help.  They also plan to offer financial planning for younger guys to get them off on the right foot.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

From the website: “Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that: * clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and * obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.” On another personal note, my cousin fought for over 30 years with CF, undergoing a double lung transplant before his kidneys failed, and you can do so much. You can even walk in their walk-a-thons without paying a dime, so check out the site for more information.

LifeStyles

From the website: “Life Styles enthusiastically supports individuals with disabilities in achieving their full potential as contributing members of the community.” Once again on a personal note, my brother is developmentally disabled and LifeStyles has been immeasurably helpful in his living a normal life. Volunteer, donate or just show support and help out a fantastic community of people.

LungCancer.org

From the website: “Lungcancer.org is a program of CancerCare, a national nonprofit organization that provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by lung cancer. Services include counseling, education, financial assistance and practical help, are provided by trained oncology social workers and are completely free of charge.”  In loving memory of Sandy West.

TJ Martell Foundation

From the website: “A young boy named T.J. Martell asked his father, music industry executive Tony Martell, to raise a million dollars for the lifesaving leukemia research that made it possible for him to reach his nineteenth birthday, two years beyond his original prognosis. T.J. died later that year, but Tony Martell, along with a group of music industry executives, artists and friends, vowed to uphold that promise.”
