Back from vacation and what a wild ride it was
Some of you may know the story of my vacation already but for those that don’t, here you go. Â I flew out to Phoenix for WrestleMania weekend. Â I enjoyed the two Dragon Gate shows and skipped the Ring of Honor show that I had a general admission ticket to because I was tired (perhaps I should have taken that as a warning). Â WrestleMania itself was great and while waiting for a cab I met several entertaining fellow fans. Â It’s always nice to meet people who feel free to talk without fear of being ridiculed.
Monday morning I woke up feeling bad and within a couple hours I was in the hotel lobby doubled over in pain. Â The Hilton Garden Inn staff called an ambulance for me and were very calm and helpful while we waited. Â I was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where they put me in a hallway to wait. Â I responded to this by trying to completely decorate their floor in a rather nasty way. Â I was very quickly taken back at that point.
So I got an IV and some awesome pain medicine while I waited and after several hours of drifting, they informed me I had to be admitted because a kidney stone had blocked things up and I was dealing with a pretty nasty infection. Â So by early evening I was in my own room with more of that awesome pain medicine and IV antibiotics.
Last year I’d have flipped out and crashed. Â This year I absolutely refused. Â I was the most cheerful patient they had. Â I was ridiculously cheerful. Â We cracked jokes, we laughed, I lost eight pounds. Â And obviously, I missed my flight to Los Angeles. Â The Hilton packed up my stuff and brought it to me so I wouldn’t have to keep paying for the room.
Wednesday afternoon they let me go with some Vicodin and antibiotics and the Hilton came and picked me up again and put me up for the night. Â Thursday I finally got to LA, changed my flight home from Saturday to Sunday, and spent the next few days hanging with my sister. Â The last time I went out there I was in a wheelchair most of the time. Â This time I get a kidney stone. Â Danna is ever patient (and thrilled she didn’t have to push a wheelchair around Disney Land again!) and I got lots of love from my Buster and Ripples.
Now I’m home and back at work, playing it by ear since the infection isn’t gone yet and the stent still makes me sore. Â I’m trying to get my urologist to get my records from Phoenix so I can schedule another surgery to get this darn thing out for good. Â Hopefully that won’t take long.
I do like to make life interesting. Â It wasn’t the trip I’d planned but we made it fun. Â I will not be denied!
