Destroying government acceptance of illegal immigration

Posted on July 30, 2009 in Devil's Advocate | Comments: zero

Today I had a very interesting conversation about immigration with a man who lives nearby. He told me everything he knew about the scourge of illegal immigration and made some very personal points with great intensity. He was very convincing. So I did a little research, and I discovered a government-supported statement that supports immigration in such a widespread way that I believe we must take it upon ourselves to remove it from our lexicon. It’s in public and our children see it on a regular basis. If we’re going to be consistent, this statement must go.

In essence, the statement says that the United States is proud to take in just about anybody at any time, and will light the path for them to come. We simply can’t approve of something like that, so here’s my plan.

We put out a petition to the US government calling for the destruction of this invitation to foreigners to come to the United States to stay. But we don’t want to just cross it out or put “DO NOT” before the statement. That just invites people to question us and could be fixed later to say what it says now. So in my opinion the only way to eliminate this pro-immigration statement is to destroy it completely. We could use the rubble to build low cost housing for real Americans.

So sign my petition, won’t you? It’s imperative that we destroy this inscription which so many people see.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Given it’s location of course we’ll have to destroy the entire Statue of Liberty. But that shouldn’t be a problem. It is French after all. The only issue left after we do this is to deport the descendants of anyone who ever came here illegally, especially those ancestors who used violence to stay here. Which means anyone descended from early Europeans needs to go. You’ve taken advantage of our system for far too long.

Wait a minute…that includes me. Crap. I’ll start packing.

sarcasm: 1. harsh or bitter derision or irony. 2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark.

The Devil’s Advocate category is where I play devil’s advocate on any issue where I think people haven’t put a lot of thought into a topic. Even if I agree with the person, thinking about other sides of the issue never hurts anybody.
