A WrestleMania 25 Dream
During the buildup to WrestleMania 24, I’ve been thinking a lot about WrestleMania 25. You know Vince McMahon will make a big deal about his baby reaching the quarter century age, as well he should. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled out stops he never would ordinarily to make it an even bigger show than it already will be. So I thought I’d throw out a little dream I have for that show. Of course since I’m saying it, that guarantees it will never happen, but dreams don’t always bend on reality.
My idea is pretty simple, and the celebrity involved most likely will have other things to do. If I had my way, this is the way it would go. Now since I can’t control future injuries or new stars, I’m going to use two current wrestlers as an example of what I want to do.
A few months before WrestleMania 25, Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix (she could have lost it and regained it between now and then) decides that the plebeians in the audience don’t deserve to hear the voice of the Glamazon. So she hires an audacious woman to speak for her. I don’t care who it is, so long as the lady can talk most people under the table. She needs a great personality to pull this off. The new manager cheats for Phoenix for no reason – when Beth is in full control, just out of spite, the manager trips the opponent or does something otherwise nefarious. She then ticks off everyone in the crowd by berating them for not bowing down to the Glamazon.
This goes on for a while, driving Mickie James to the point of distraction. Mickie gets in line for a title shot and either gets screwed or is constantly put off. She finally challenges Phoenix to a title match at WrestleMania, and says since Phoenix has her corner, Mickie is going to bring in someone she knows will take care of business.
Three or four weeks before WM, Phoenix is in the ring abusing someone while the manager shouts at the fans over the mic. After the match is over, the manager again berates everyone and says Mickie James will never be able to beat the Glamazon, and could never find someone as charismatic, as passionate or as plain out crazy as the great manager of the champion. Just then, a familiar song plays which I’m hoping will get a pop. James comes out with Cyndi Lauper, and Lauper reminds everyone that she managed Wendi Richter to the World Title at WrestleMania 1, and she’s going to be with a champion again at Wrestlemania 25.
Leading up to WM, every week Phoenix’s manager pulls stuff and James and Lauper get within inches of getting their hands on her but never quite can. When WM comes around, the manager tries to cheat, and Lauper finally gets to whack her one. James goes on to pin Phoenix and win the World Title, and she celebrates with Lauper mid-ring as Phoenix screams in frustration on the floor.
I think this would be awesome. It ties in to the very first WrestleMania, crowns a new champion after several months of the fans wanting one, creates a new evil manager for future use, and puts a little something on the women’s division. I’d pay for it.
